The first set of vaccinations for a puppy or kitten, or for an adult whose cover has lapsed.
Lowest published prices

Cat 1 practice
- Island Vetcare£104.20 checked (practice's own price list) from the practice's own price list (published before the CMA standard list) The practice's list doesn't say whether the consultation is included.
In-hours, standard prices including VAT, from 1 practice that already publishes; not a UK average. We show a range once 3 practices list a price and a median once 5 do. Fewer than 3 practices list a price for a cat so far.
What it is
The CMA's definition of this item covers a consultation or clinical examination by a vet, the vaccine given by a vet or a registered veterinary nurse, and completing the vaccination certificate (Explanatory Note, Annex 1). It adds that the price is "inclusive of all core vaccines".
Official price-list name: Vaccinations primary course (including consultation)
(CMA Order, Schedule 1).
What's included
- Anything that is an essential part of the service, and VAT (Art. 7(2)(d) and (f))
The three vaccination items
All three vaccination items carry the words "including consultation" in their official names, so each listed price should cover the consultation that goes with the jab, not the vaccine alone. A primary course and a booster are separate items, and kennel cough has its own line.

- Vaccination booster (inc. consultation)

Why the price varies
- Which vaccines are in the standard price. Core vaccines must be included. Lifestyle vaccines, such as feline leukaemia for cats that go outside, are the ones to ask about.
- The number of injections. A third injection, if your pet needs one, may or may not be in the standard price.
- Kennel cough is separate. It has its own item on the list.
- Who owns the practice. The CMA found that between January 2023 and July 2024, average prices at five of the six large vet groups were together 18.3% higher than at independent practices for consultations, treatments and medicines (final report summary, paragraph 25).
- Care plans. If your pet is on the practice's pet care plan, check whether this is included or discounted before you compare list prices.
Background
PDSA describes a puppy course as two injections two to four weeks apart from around six to eight weeks old, and a kitten course as two injections three to four weeks apart, usually at 9 and 12 weeks, with some pets needing a third (PDSA, April 2022). The item is a course, so the price should cover the whole course.
Questions to ask the practice
- Does the price cover every injection in the course?
- Which vaccines are included, and is feline leukaemia included for an outdoor cat?
- If my pet already had a first injection elsewhere, how will you price finishing the course?
We explain prices, not treatment. Ask your vet about the clinical choices for your own pet.
The rules
What the practice's price list must show, with the Order's article references
The exact name from Schedule 1, “Vaccinations primary course (including consultation)”, with no free-text description (Art. 7(2)(a)).
As for every item: each version on its own line with the standard one marked, a cat price and five dog bands where the price depends on the animal, and VAT included, kept up to date and changed before a higher price is charged (Art. 7(2)(b), (c), (f) and (g), and 7(5)).
Large vet groups must publish from 23 December 2026 and smaller practices from 23 March 2027 (Art. 3 and 7).

Questions
Does the course price include the vet's check?
It should. The item is named "including consultation", and the CMA's definition includes a consultation or clinical examination by a vet.
When is a pet fully protected?
PDSA says puppies are fully protected two to four weeks after their final injection and kittens three to four weeks after. Ask your vet about your own pet.
Why might my bill be higher than the listed price?
Listed prices are for the typical case. Each price list must say so, and must warn that prices may go up in more complex or complicated cases (Art. 7(2)(l)). The price must still include anything that is an essential part of the service (Art. 7(2)(d)).
How up to date are the prices here?
Every price shows the date we last checked it and links to the practice's own page. We re-check weekly, and daily from 23 to 31 December 2026. If a price looks wrong, email [email protected].
